by Heaven Robinson A photo of me and my father. Him in a bright yellow shirt he always seemed to wear, Me in a … dress I willingly did not want to wear. My fifth grade graduation, the beginning of my middle school years, and the last photo I have ever taken with my father.
The picture means a lot to me. I did not get to take another picture after my graduation, He died while I was in the sixth grade. He was not here to take another picture with me after I had graduated from middle school. He couldn't call me to voice his gratitude, He couldn’t send a voicemail of him sounding as happy as can be. I had to imagine his voice. His tone tells me he’s proud of me. That is the worst feeling I have ever experienced, and I have had multiple stitches and dislocated joints. I miss him with all my heart. So the last picture I had ever taken with him means a lot to me. It sits there, hung up on my wall facing me. A picture of him on his dirtbike is above my bed. I miss him so much. I know he was there to celebrate with me spiritually anyway. I look back at that picture a lot. His arm around my shoulders. Doing that toothless smile he always did. His favorite hat is on his head. Skinny jeans, and his favorite pair of boots. I do not know where his clothes are now. My grandma either threw them away or gave them out to people who did not matter. I hate her for that. I wish I could have gotten some of his things. I did not get any. Not even a coat or a hat, both of which he had many. I have forgotten the way he would smell, It was a unique smell. One nobody else could achieve. Either way, my father was and will always be important to me. Dead or alive. That picture, means a lot to me. And it always will be. Whether I am dead or alive. The picture has a lot of our emotions trapped behind the glass of its frame. So much so that I am pretty sure they would all go flying around my room if the frame were ever broken or cracked in the slightest. Comments are closed.
